Last night saw English rock band The Cult bring their ‘Under the Midnight Sun’ European tour to The Piece Hall in Halifax. Following the release of their 2022 album ‘Under the Midnight Sun’, which saw the band achieve their seventh UK top 20 album, the band are set to embark on a 13 date tour to promote said album. For fans this was the first time to catch the band in England since their last co-headline arena tour with Alice Cooper that took place last year.
Formed in Bradford in 1983, Ian Astbury and Billy Duffy continue to be the original members along with later members John Tempesta (drums), Charlie Jones (bass) and Mike Mangan (keyboards). The Cult join The Charlatans, Johnny Marr, Sting, Madness, James, Boygenius, War On Drugs and Ministry of Sound Classical among the 2023 headliners for ‘Live at The Piece Hall’. Tickets for upcoming events are available to purchase here.
Opening with ‘Rise’, the band take fans back to a track from the early 2000s before delving into some of their new music, including tracks ‘Vendetta X’ and ‘Mirror’. Ending the set with arguably their most iconic song to date ‘She Sells Sanctuary’, the band leave fans wanting more before emerging and playing an encore of two tracks ‘Peace Dog’ and ‘Love Removal Machine’, both of which feature on the band’s 1987 album ‘Electric’.
