With support from The Takeaway Thieves and Atlas – The Corporation, Sheffield 25th feb 22.
I was off out for a night filled with rock n roll to round off my week over at The Corporation in Sheffield with 3 awesome bands! Headliners Midnite City were bringing their “They Only Come Out At Night 2022” tour and I was looking forward to this!
Lots of hair, 80’s and glam metal coming up. I’ve listened to these guys for a while and heard very good things about their live shows.
I rock up with 5 minutes to go (always last minute.com ha ha) Quick reckie of the place – there’s no pit so I sharpen my elbows. (only kidding there)
Kicking off the first of 3 bands on the bill we have the fabulous Takeaway Thieves. I am a big fan of these ever since discovering them for my radio show 2 years ago. Think they were the first band I played 🙂 So I have my home customised tie dye TT tee on, which the band were in awe of obvs.
The boys from Blackpool enter the stage to a big welcome from the crowd, and kicking off with ’13 Feathers’ loads of swagger in this track, and the place is rocking already, I have a bit of room at the front so ok so far. Shortly followed by ‘Snakes and Daggers’ a fast rocky number. The crowd singing along and dancing. They follow this with more tracks from their latest album “9” including ‘Soothe Me’ and ‘Spider’
Lead singer Pete is flinging the mic stand round which I manage to dodge!
Bassist Adam just shredding it up and guitarist Neil is bouncing around the stage. Adam was in the shadows a lot making it difficult to get a shot, but he came to the front a few times. Quick photo opportunity! They mention their usual drummer was unable to join them, so their friend Rick came all the way from London to cover, and what a great job he did! Their final song was ‘This is Rock n Roll’ my personal fave and it rounded off what was a brilliant set from the guys.
Get yourself one of their cd’s or even a tee and tie dye it 🙂 You can catch the guys on the road at a few more venues round the country, go check them out.
Next up was Atlas, a 5-piece melodic hard rock band from Manchester. Now I haven’t heard these guys, and was not disappointed when they launched into their set. Lead singer Craig, with his Steve Tyler-esque mic stand in hand, he bounced around that stage and posed for us photographers quite a bit.
Very lively band, with real good hard rock riffs. They launched into their first song ‘Fever’ followed by ‘Without You’ and ‘Dare to Love’ from their album ‘Parallel Love’ A swift guitar change and Craig chatted with the crowd, they were back to rocking out to ‘Weathered Heart’ and ‘Human Touch’
I can hear the 80’s influences from this young band, with lots of Bon Jovi and Journey in there. They got the crowd going the whole set. Finishing with ‘Flesh And Blood’ and ‘Breathe Me In’ I am confident they pleased the crowd going off the cheers they received. Ones to watch these guys are!
The main guys Midnite City are next, and the area which I had to move in, had reduced massively due to fans getting close up in anticipation for their fave band entering the stage. Preparing to get squashed following an entrance song, they appear, bassist first. Best watch out for taking a bashing from this bass! Straight into ‘We belong’ and right away I am feeling the Steel Panther vibes, and they look great! Lots of big hair and spandex. Loving it! Fans at the front getting right into it. Songs followed included ‘Crawlin in the dirt’ ‘Atomic’ taken from their latest album ‘Itch You Can’t Scratch’. The occasional fist pump to the fans from frontman Rob, he’s bouncing around the stage getting the crowd involved the whole time, what a great entertainer. Bassist Josh rocking out giving it big hair moshing!
They smash out more songs including ‘I don’t Need Another Heartache’ ‘One Step Away’, ‘You Don’t Understand Me’ I found myself singing away joining in with the crowd, who were brilliant by the way, putting up with me squeezing through, they were all too happy dancing away to the songs they were blasting out including ‘Ghosts of My Old Friends’ and ‘I Don’t need Another Hearthache’ When the tour titled song ‘They Only Come Out at Night’ taken from their album ‘Midnite City’ started off, the whole crowd were singing loud ‘Nah, nah, naaaah’ Guitarist Miles and Shawn on keytar were up front taking the limelight for this one, the keyboard sure adds to their 80’s rock vibe. Awesome
More feel good tracks followed including ‘Life Ain’t Like This on The Radio’ ‘Can’t Wait For The Nights’ ‘Rock And A Hard Place’ Rob blasting the high hooks while jumping the whole show and checking the crowd were enjoying it. Of course they were!!
Their set was rounded off with Girls Of Toykyo’ ‘Summer of Our Lives’ and ‘Give Me Love. Huge cheers and clapping from the adoring fans, I have to say it’s one of the best gigs I have been to. I waited around to meet them all, photo obligatory of course. If you haven’t seen these guys yet go see them! Smiles guaranteed at the end of it! All the bands were amazing tonight. Great night.
