Northlane, Gunship, Lucero and Not3s release singles: Listen

Northlane have released their new stand-alone single “Vultures” today via UNFD. Northlane’s most aggressive track in years, “Vultures” is the band at their dark and scathing best – but entirely on their own terms.

There’s a vulture waiting to pick at my bones and bury me alive.

Confronting those who’ve tried to contain Northlane over the years, “Vultures” is a frantic purge of frustration and bile, carried forth by the band at their heavy best. Northlane frontman Marcus Bridge has been on the receiving end of wild expectation and criticism ever since he stepped up to the microphone in 2014 and he’s had enough.

“The main message is not having to live up to someone’s expectations or live within someone’s idea of what you should be,” says Bridge. “It stems from a built-up number of things over the last few years that comes with people expecting what we are supposed to sound like as a band since I’ve come on board. A lot of that stuff that has given us this feeling to want to talk about it. It’s important to be true to yourself and not let anyone mould you in a way that isn’t the way you want to be.

“Just being able to talk about this subject at a point in time now where I see Northlane as being our band now, I don’t feel like the new guy anymore. It feels like we are finally doing us and it’s all feeling a lot more natural.”

After announcing they’d be taking time out from the Australian touring circuit in early-2018, Northlanehad their first real break in years. During this downtime music was never far from their collective minds and feeling inspired and invigorated again, “Vultures” was created.

To bring Vultures to life, Northlane returned to their roots in Western Sydney and recorded the instruments at Chris Blancato’s studio (the same place they recorded the instruments for Hollow Existence and the single “Rot”) with vocals laid down at Electric Sun Studios with Dave Petrovic (where Discoveries was recorded). The band also introduced some new faces into the recording process with Drew Fulk (Motionless in White, Pop Evil) co-producing the track with the band and mixing handled by Adam “Nolly” Getgood (Periphery).

Bridge too has his own personal history at Electric Sun Studios, recording there a decade prior, and revisiting both their pasts really cemented his place within Northlane.

“It was really special to come back Electric Sun and merge mine and Northlane’s history together,” he finishes.

The band will also be returning to the UK this November for the Never Say Die Tour.

You can see Northlane at the following dates:

4th November Koko London
5th November SWX Bristol

Northlane released their previous album Mesmer in March 2017 as a surprise to fans, which debuted at #3 on the ARIA Chart and earned the band their second ARIA Award for Best Hard Rock / Heavy Metal album that same year. In 2018, Mesmer has been on to be nominated for an AIR award for Best Independent Hard Rock, Heavy or Punk Album, as well as Best Artwork at the Heavy Music Awards.

“Vultures” is available now on limited edition vinyl (only 300 copies worldwide) and on all streaming services.

LUCERO share new track “Cover Me” taken from forthcoming album “Among The Ghosts”

Nashville, TN – Memphis rock/alt country quintet Lucero has announced 2018 fall tour dates in support of their upcoming album Among The Ghosts, which releases on August 3rd via Liberty & Lament/Thirty Tigers. The anticipated new album has already received positive responses, including early coverage from Billboard, Garden & Gun, Rolling Stone Country and Brooklyn Vegan, with more to come. American Songwriter posted an exclusive premiere of Lucero’s new track Cover Me. Click HERE to listen.

Celebrating 20 years together, Lucero returns to their early rock n’ roll days for the band’s ninth studio album as they pull back on the big arrangements and Memphis-styled horns of their recent work. With lead singer/songwriter Ben Nichols taking a more observational approach, Among The Ghosts showcases his penchant for creating hauntingly vivid imagery with literary-inspired storytelling steeped in Southern Gothic vignettes. The result is an album that is more core Lucero and yet not quite like anything the band has done in recent years. Among The Ghosts is the sound of a band going back to their roots to discover a fresh perspective and cement their legacy for years to come. In recognition of their 20 year anniversary, Lucero just released a home movie-style video featuring entertaining personal footage captured during their earlier days set to the track “For The Lonely Ones”. View it HERE.

Lucero has remained firmly rooted in their blue-collar ethos for two decades, building a loyal legion of fans along the way with their gritty, high-powered live performances and communal atmosphere. Keeping one foot firmly planted in a foundation of Memphis rock and soul, the band consistently brings it night after night, playing over 100 shows a year and continuing to pack houses all over. Lucero’s longevity and ability to evolve while engaging fans both new and old, proves that even after all this time they remain a relevant, dynamic force with staying power.

GUNSHIP RETURN WITH NEW SINGLE AND VIDEO
+
ANNOUNCE NEW ALBUM ‘DARK ALL DAY’

Today, synthwave pioneers Gunship return with the announcement of a brand new 13-track album titled ‘Dark All Day’ and unveil an epic new anime/live-action video for the title track. The new record is now available for pre-order and will be released on 5th October 2018.

In true Gunship fashion, the band have dusted off the VHS – both video and track are a tribute to the cult 1987 film ‘The Lost Boys’ and feature one of the film’s stars Mr. Timmy Cappello – the sexy sax man himself. Timmy provides a blistering performance on the track and also appears in the video, which sees him reprise his original role from ‘The Lost Boys’ some 30 years later.

Quote from Tim Cappello:

“Gunship’s track ‘Dark All Day’ is one of the funkiest tracks I’ve ever played on. The groove is brooding and dark but there’s so much passion & power to it, it moves so well, I couldn’t stop dancing while I was playing on it. And going doubletime during the choruses, pure genius. The guest singer, Indiana, has so much personality, her voice is so perfect for this, I think she’s AMAZING! It was so much fun to reprise my role in The Lost Boys, 30 years later, I kinda felt like a kid again, the hips are holding up :D.”

The video and track also features UK singer/songwriter Indiana on vocals, best known for her chart topping song ‘Solo Dancing’ and album ‘No Romeo’.

WATCH THE VIDEO FOR ‘DARK ALL DAY’ HERE

Conceptually, the new video sees Gunship return to The Lost Boys’ fictional town of ‘Santa Carla’ in order to play a show. Unfortunately the years have not been kind to Santa Carla and the town’s infamous vampire infestation has worsened considerably. It’s all going to OK though – GUNSHIP have brought the world’s most notorious vampire slayers along for the ride as their personal bodyguards…

The new video pays homage to numerous well known vampire slayer characters, including Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Blade, Seth Gecko from ‘Dusk til Dawn’, and the Frog brothers from the original film. The video culminates in the ‘death’ of Gunship, and their undead resurrection.

The album artwork also suggests a progression. The new cover art shows the previous album’s sun-design now ominously eclipsed. This signifies the beginning of the ‘Dark All Day’ era, a musical expansion of the band’s sound which sees them exploring darker and more cinematic material in tandem with a renewed focus on the killer hooks and pop sensibility Gunship are known for. Countless horror classics were unleashed on the world during the 1980s; this is Gunship’s love letter to that incredibly creative and artistically rich period.

The video is created in Japanese anime style by ‘Angry Metal Studios’ but, significantly, it switches to live action for the finale – this is the first time that Gunship have revealed themselves, having never appeared in any of their previous videos.

Gunship are well-known for their impressive collaborations with previous material featuring the likes of John Carpenter (director/composer), Lee Hardcastle (The ABC’s of Death, [Adult Swim], 20th Century Fox), Charlie Simpson, Lou Hayter (New Young Pony Club), Martin Grech, Stella Le Page, Miami Nights 1984, Make Up And Vanity Set, Carpenter Brut and more.

The new album ‘Dark All Day’ sees the band expand on this by collaborating with the likes of tattoo artist, model, musician, author, entrepreneur, and television personality Kat Von D, who provides a seething and haunting vocal collaboration on track ‘Black Blood Red Kiss’. Elsewhere on the album, ‘When You Grow Up Your Heart Dies’ features an innovative segment in which fans submitted recordings of themselves giving uplifting statements, led by self-proclaimed ‘King of the Nerds’ Wil Wheaton (The Big Bang Theory, Star Trek, Stand By Me…).

Similarly, the band channel their love for all things cyberpunk on the track ‘Woken Furies’ which is a tribute to and features voice-over from renowned science fiction author Richard K. Morgan (Altered Carbon). In addition, ‘Art3mis & Parzival’ is written in tribute to the book ‘Ready Player One’, which was recently brought to the screen by Steven Spielberg. The genuine 8-bit pixel art video for ‘Art3mis & Parzival’ was released in April, garnering effusive praise from no less than the author of ‘Ready Player One’ himself Ernest Cline, who described it as “Badass”.

Popular UK artist Una Healy (The Saturdays) also contributes vocals on the album.

‘Dark All Day’ is availble for pre-order now. The album contains 13 tracks and is available in a deluxe limited edition 180g double-gatefold 45 rpm vinyl set with special lenticular cover, as well as in a brand new Special Edition ‘16-Bit Box Set’ which includes signed CD and a plethora of new GUNSHIP goodies.

Upon pre-ordering the album listeners will receive two instant downloads ‘Dark All Day’, and ‘Art3mis & Parzival’.

GUNSHIP is Dan Haigh, Alex Westaway andAlex Gingell. Gunship’s sound is created with vintage analogue synthesizers and other retro electronic gear from the 1980s. Driven and inspired by nostalgia for a bygone era, Gunship harness this retro approach to birth something fresh and new. Their sound is sonically diverse – blending sweeping fluorescent synth lines with fever pitched and adrenalizing electric bass arpeggios.

Dan Haigh from Gunship describes their sound as “a neon soaked, late night, sonic getaway drive, dripping with luscious analogue synthesizers, cinematic vocals and cyberpunk values, exploding from the front cover of a dusty plastic VHS case which has lain forgotten since 1984.”

MOON PANDA PREMIERE NEW VIDEO FOR ‘RABBIT’ AT IT’S NICE THAT

Today, Moon Panda have premiered their visually stunning new video by animators Andrew Khosravani and Rosanna Wan at It’s Nice That. The band contacted Khosravani after seeing his work for Citadel Festival in 2017. It’s Nice That have described the video as taking you “on a weird and wonderful journey through space and time“.

Maddy of Moon Panda explains the brief given: “We gave him very little direction because we wanted him to do his own thing and run wild with it. We pretty much just said think: space jungle. Vibrant colors & otherworldly adventure“.

Khosravani said on the collaboration: “Ioften get contacted with requests for similar sorts of stuff but I haven’t really worked on many music videos in the past mainly because I have this idea in my head of what kind of music video I would like to make and the songs don’t usually match that idea. However the second I heard the song I knew it was a banger and was very very excited about the idea of working on it. It’s a fantastic tune after all.”

Not3s premieres new single, ‘Just Fine’

Not3s has premiered brand new single ‘Just Fine’, the lead track from his ‘Take Not3s II’ mixtape (also available today on Relentless Records).

‘Take Not3s II’ is an immediately-impressive, confident step forward from Not3s, digging deeper into a richer spectrum of sounds and lyrically chronicling the increasingly-surreal life experiences of a breakthrough twelve months. Featuring collaborations with the likes of Fraser T Smith (Stormzy, Adele, Drake) and Maleek Berry (on recent track ‘Sit Back Down’), the mixtape is introduced by new single ‘Just Fine’ – an affecting call to stay true to your roots (and yourself) irrespective of a change in luck or fortune. Taking you on a journey, the tape includes a fresh harder sound for Not3s on songs like “Trekked Like Me (featuring AJ Tracey)” and more romantic flavours in standout jams like “Palm Wine”.

Already, it has been quite the journey for Not3s. With 1.5 million UK single sales under his belt, Not3s is the only UK artist since Ed Sheeran to feature on 3 singles in the top 40 at the same time. His impassioned young audience saw a UK tour – including a London show at Koko – sell out in under 15 minutes. Always a charismatic and idiosyncratic storyteller, Not3s is now confirming his potential for truly global popstardom: having won Best Breakthrough at the GRM Daily Awards and been nominated for the BBC Sound of 2018, two Mobo Awards and MTV’s Brand New For 2018, Not3s was also recently nominated for Best International Artist at the prestigious BET Awards.

Still only 20 years old, ‘Take Not3s II’ marks a musical coming-of-age for the young singer and MC, who first started writing bars in primary school (initially inspired by the likes of DMX and Usher). His always-evolving sound effortlessly blends elements of hip-hop, dancehall, R&B – plus wider influences spanning his Hackney upbringing to African and Carribean sounds – into vibrant and vital modern pop. There have, of course, been trials and tribulations along the way: as a kid Not3s grew up in a relatively deprived household, but found (in part via an encouraging word from his headteacher) music as a means to avoid being dragged down the wrong path, which he saw many of his peers follow. Slowly honing his craft, the meanings of Not3s’ MC name and wider manifesto has only grown in significance (notes as in money, notes as in music, and the then-pipedream that someone might take notice of him). Beginning with breakout hit ‘Addison Lee’, Not3s has worked hard to turn all this in to a reality. And with ‘Take Not3s II’, Not3s begins the second chapter in an already-remarkable story, one which – scarily – you sense is also only just getting started.
