Another fantastic weekend from Irlam Live although I was only there on the Saturday.
In the past 2 years we’ve had Marti Pellow and Heather Small. 2 singers formerly of very successful groups such as Wet Wet Wet and M People. This weekend it was Holly Johnson, singer from the legendary Frankie Goes to Hollywood.
But first it was The Farm who were on stage when I arrived, luckily I never missed Groovy Train and All Together Now. The latter is played everywhere and is one of my favourite tunes from the nineties. Peter Hooton commented on how music brings Manchester and Liverpool together…….I agree.
Liberty X were my surprise act this weekend as they were never my thing but they were great. They all still look incredible and were very humble back stage. Was lovely to listen to naughties tunes they had out such as Just a little, Got to have your love and A night to remember.
Next were Riot Jazz, I wasnt to sure at first but I think they won the crowd over with a mixture of Rap, Jazz and Brass. I’d really like to see them again and I’m sure I will.
Following them was Brother Beyond’s Nathan Moore. I’ve seen him before at Let’s Rock Shrewsbury and he has such a remarkable way of playing with the crowd.
He spent most of his time at the barrier with the fans as he sang, very well I might add, The harder I try and a set of past classics from other artists.
Bad Manners are legends, SKA is always get up and dance music and the crowd were up for it. Buster Bloodvessel had them bouncing. Songs such as Lip Up Fatty, My Girl Lollipop, Special Brew and my favourite of the set, Can Can. Brilliant performance.
Last was Holly Johnson, the band started playing a familiar Bassline intro as was with Frankie goes to Hollywood tunes. Playing songs like Welcome to the pleasuredome, Rage Hard, Two Tribes, Relax and The Power of Love.
I found myself singing Americanos on my way home though.
Another great Festival which must be the pride of locals. I’m defo going next year.
Oops! I forgot about these nutters. So So Good….
